I often travel to Sicily. I love this land. I love living it in every facet, in every face, in every form that transmits an emotion to me. I love to photograph her in her most human part, in her most intimate part, that of the people who live her. I love hearing her in the stories of the people I meet. A Sicily made up of markets, shops, trades and hard work. Made of fishermen and religious traditions: it is like having the feeling of living in a large open-air theater. People, stories, traditions, cultures and different ethnic groups that mix, colors, sounds, smells, in one word: life.
“Human Sicily” is a photographic project that was born five years ago for the desire to discover and tell this land. The research and capture of fragments of life that I encountered in these trips are partially collected in this series of snapshots, aimed at telling places of absolute social and cultural spectacle, between street life, art and spirituality.
To exist, you must travel and know, and I am convinced that it must be done by thoroughly discovering our country before any other type of experience abroad. It is for this reason that for years I have been trying to tell, through some personal projects, the truest and most profound Italy, trying to give value to our territory. I do it mainly for myself, to observe, to reflect, to remember, to discover “our” humanity.

Viaggio spesso in Sicilia. Amo questa terra. Amo viverla in ogni sua sfaccettatura, in ogni suo volto, in ogni sua forma che mi trasmetta un’emozione. Amo fotografarla nella sua parte più umana, nella sua parte più intima, quella della gente che la vive. Amo ascoltarla nei racconti delle persone che incontro. Una Sicilia fatta di mercati, di botteghe, di mestieri, di fatiche. Fatta di pescatori e di tradizioni religiose: è come avere la sensazione di vivere in un grande teatro a cielo aperto. Persone, storie, tradizioni, culture e etnie diverse che si mescolano, colori, suoni, odori, in una sola parola: vita.
“Sicilia umana” è un progetto fotografico che nasce cinque anni fa per la voglia di scoprire e raccontare questa terra. La ricerca e la cattura di frammenti di vita che ho incontrato in questi viaggi sono raccolti in parte in questa serie di istantanee, volte a raccontare luoghi di assoluto spettacolo sociale e culturale, fra vita di strada, arte e spiritualità.
Per esistere si deve viaggiare e conoscere, e sono convinto che debba essere fatto scoprendo a fondo il nostro paese prima di ogni altro tipo di esperienza all’estero. E’ per questo che da anni cerco di raccontare, attraverso alcuni progetti personali, l’Italia più vera e profonda, cercando di dare valore al nostro territorio. Lo faccio principalmente per me stesso, per osservare, per riflettere, per ricordare, per scoprire la “nostra” umanità.
