Paola Signorelli – In the Rhythm of Tsavo
In the Rhythm of Tsavo
In Tsavo National Park, everything feels familiar: the red tracks, animals crossing the savanna, the vastness of space, the light igniting the dust at sunset. It is the narrative we expect.

I chose to move in a different direction.

I was not interested in telling a safari story or documenting sightings: images like these already exist in countless variations.

Instead, I wanted to understand what this experience would leave behind.
Not to describe a place, but to convey the atmospheres and emotions that took shape as I moved through it.

Sleeping in a tent, immersed in an essential environment without mediation, gave form to the rhythm of the experience. Time stretched, silence became presence, and distance began to define space more than any encounter.

In the Rhythm of Tsavo is rooted in this intention.

Black and white is an emotional choice: it removes the color of the savanna to reveal tensions, pauses, and traces. The landscape is reduced to its essence, becoming a space of perception rather than representation.

This work does not describe what I saw.
It reflects how that place stayed with me — its slow rhythm, its solitude, its quiet strength.

Cercavo piuttosto di capire cosa quell’esperienza lasciasse in me.

In the Rhythm of Tsavo nasce da questa intenzione.
