Pavia Battle re-enactment

Participating in the historical re-enactment of the Battle of Pavia in 1525 was a unique experience for me, a “journey” back in time that goes beyond simple photographic documentation.

I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the lives of the extras, breathing the passion and energy of those who dedicate time, commitment and heart to bring back to life a crucial moment in our history.

The days spent in camps and battlefields allowed me to closely observe a world made of details: the shiny metal of the armor, the sound of swords crossing each other, the intense colors of the carefully reconstructed clothes. But what struck me most was the human side of this re-enactment: the sincere smile of the participants, the complicity between friends, the evenings around the fire between stories and laughter, which contrast with the seriousness and intensity of the moments of battle.

With my camera I tried to capture this balance: the strength and discipline of the daytime clash and, at the same time, the lightness and joy that animate the nights in the camps. Each shot is a fragment of this double soul, a story of history but also of brotherhood.

Partecipare alla rievocazione storica della Battaglia di Pavia del 1525 è stata per me un’esperienza unica, un “viaggio” indietro nel tempo che va oltre la semplice documentazione fotografica.

Ho avuto l’opportunità di immergermi nella vita dei figuranti, respirando la passione e l’energia di chi dedica tempo, impegno e cuore per riportare alla vita un momento cruciale della nostra storia.

Le giornate trascorse tra accampamenti e campi di battaglia mi hanno permesso di osservare da vicino un mondo fatto di dettagli: il metallo lucido delle armature, il suono delle spade che si incrociano, i colori intensi degli abiti ricostruiti con cura. Ma ciò che più mi ha colpito è stato il lato umano di questa rievocazione: il sorriso sincero dei partecipanti, la complicità tra amici, le serate attorno al fuoco tra racconti e risate, che contrastano con la serietà e l’intensità dei momenti di battaglia.

Con la mia macchina fotografica ho cercato di catturare questo equilibrio: la forza e la disciplina dello scontro diurno e, allo stesso tempo, la leggerezza e l’allegria che animano le notti negli accampamenti. Ogni scatto è un frammento di questa doppia anima, un racconto di storia ma anche di fratellanza.
